Saaho is a 2019 Indian multilingual action thriller film written and directed by Sujeeth. Produced by Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati under the banner of UV Creations, the film stars Prabhas, Shraddha Kapoor, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Jackie Shroff, Chunky Pandey, Arun Vijay, Mandira Bedi, and Mahesh Manjrekar. The film has a multilingual release in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada languages.
The film follows two covert operatives, Ashok Chakravarthy (Prabhas) and Amritha Nair (Shraddha Kapoor), who are searching for a thief who has stolen ₹2,000 crore (US$20 billion). Soon, they realize the case is linked to the death of a prominent business tycoon and an emerging gang war for the control of a megalopolis.
The film begins in Dubai, where a master thief named Jai (Prabhas) steals ₹2,000 crore ($20 billion) with ease. The culprit proves difficult to identify because he used random, unrelated people who were unaware they were assisting in a robbery, to steal the money; and a nationwide search ensues. Ashok Chakravarthy, a secret agent, is assigned to lead the search with the help of crime branch officers Amritha Nair, Goswami, and David. They uncover a thief named Jai, whom Ashok meets in a bar.
Ashok and Amritha track Jai to Mumbai, where he is planning to steal a black box that will unlock the riches of a deceased crime lord named Roy (Jackie Shroff). Jai is aided by his team of henchmen, led by Benzy (Neil Nitin Mukesh). Ashok and Amritha must race against time to stop Jai and his team from stealing the black box and unleashing chaos on the city.
Saaho is a visually stunning film with some impressive action sequences. However, the story is convoluted and the characters are underdeveloped. The film is also overlong, clocking in at over 2.5 hours.
Overall, Saaho is an ambitious film that falls short of its potential. It is worth watching for the action sequences and the visual spectacle, but viewers should not expect a well-told story or well-developed characters.
