Thunivu is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film written and directed by H. Vinoth and produced by Boney Kapoor under Bayview Projects LLP. The film stars Ajith Kumar, Manju Warrier, Veera, and Yogi Babu. The film follows a mysterious man nicknamed "Dark Devil" who robs a bank and exposes the corruption of the government and the police.
The film begins with Radha, a dreaded gangster, and his men planning a heist at "Your Bank", one of the biggest privately-owned banks in Chennai. They plan to rob ₹500 crore on 21 May, coinciding with the Governor's party event at his residence. On the day of the heist, Radha and his men hijack the bank, only to discover that the bank is already hijacked by Dark Devil and his accomplice, Kanmani.
The commandos arrive inside the bank, but get defeated by Dark Devil. The police tracks a van where Kanmani is guiding Dark Devil, but Kanmani destroys the van and escapes. Ramachandran sends his men to trace Kanmani, but she kills them and exposes Ramachandran's involvement in the heist to Dayalan, who interrogates him. Ramachandran confesses that he along with his childhood friend Shyam, the Tamil Nadu Branch Head of Your Bank, planned the heist. Ramachandran tried hiring Dark Devil for the job, but he refused. Ramachandran later hired Radha's gang for the job, without revealing that they will be killed after the heist.
Dark Devil eventually escapes from the bank with the money, but not before killing Shyam. The police track Dark Devil to his hideout, but he manages to escape. Dark Devil then exposes the corruption of the government and the police, and calls on the people to rise up against them.
The film ends with Dark Devil being chased by the police, but he manages to escape. The film leaves the audience with the question of who Dark Devil is and what his true motives are.
Thunivu is a fast-paced action thriller with a strong social message. The film is well-made and the performances are top-notch. Ajith Kumar is excellent as Dark Devil and Manju Warrier is equally impressive as Kanmani. The film is sure to entertain audiences and leave them thinking.
